Cunard Line Welcomes UK Minister and British Consul-General aboard Queen Elizabeth

Cunard Line welcomed UK Minister for the Cabinet Office, Rt Hon Francis Maude MP, and New York’s British HM Consul-General, Danny Lopez, on board Queen Elizabeth at a luncheon on 20 September to celebrate the continued support for business relationships between the United Kingdom and United States.

“Beginning with Samuel Cunard’s first British steamship mail contract in 1839, Cunard Line has been a leader in trans-Atlantic trade,” said Consul-General Danny Lopez. “It is fitting and symbolic to be on board the splendid Queen Elizabeth for an event that honours our shared goals of facilitating and strengthening trade and investment between the UK and US.”

Consul-General Lopez was appointed to his New York post by Her Majesty The Queen in July 2011. He also serves as Director-General of UK Trade & Investment, the economic development arm of the UK Government, leading the operations throughout the United States. Prior to his appointment, Consul-General Lopez worked for the London Development Agency and was responsible for creating London & Partners, the city’s promotional agency for business, visitors and students, and was its inaugural CEO.

Queen Elizabeth visited New York for an overnight call to Manhattan during her maiden 24-day New England & Canadian Adventure voyage. Following her visit to New York, she sailed on to Newport, Rhode Island, then arrived in Boston this morning for her maiden call to the historic port city. She then continues her voyage up the eastern seaboard through Maine to the Canadian ports of Halifax, Nova Scotia and Québec City, Québec before returning to Southampton.

Debuting in October 2010, Queen Elizabeth captured the world’s stage with her Royal Naming Ceremony by Her Majesty The Queen, in Southampton, England. Art Deco features throughout the ship pay homage to the original Queen Elizabeth, reflecting The New Golden Age of Ocean Travel. On board, guests savour the sense of occasion by dressing up for glamourous evenings at Royal Nights themed balls and enjoy countless offerings and amenities, from Champagne Afternoon Tea in the Garden Lounge, to an extraordinary dining experience in The Verandah, a French restaurant that pays tribute to the legendary Verandah Grills aboard the original Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary.
